- CNN launched on 1 June 1980 with one TV network, 10 bureaus and 225 staff available to 1.7 million homes.
- Today the CNN brand comprises nine cable and satellite television networks; one private place-based network; two radio networks; wireless devices that provide news and information to mobile devices; the CNN Digital Network comprises the world's leading news and information website, ranked No. 1 in Gross Usage Minutes among all online news sites; CNN Newsource, the world's most extensively syndicated news service; and strategic international partnerships within both television and the digital media.
- CNN has 47 editorial operations, more than 1,000 affiliates worldwide, and 8 production centers.

- Regionalization of CNN International programming was launched in September 1997 and now comprises five separately scheduled international television channels - Asia Pacific; South Asia; Europe/The Middle East/Africa; Latin America and North America.
- CNNj is a partnership between CNN and Japan Cable television (JCTV), CNN's distribution partner for 25 years. CNNj is tailored specifically for a Japanese audience, with 119 hours per week translation service. CNNj provides CNN’s award-winning programming including ‘CNN Today’, ‘World News Asia’, ‘World Sport’, as well as feature programs such as ‘Talk Asia’, ‘CNN Business Traveller’, ‘Revealed’, ‘Anderson Cooper 360’, and ‘Larry King Live’ from CNN International and CNN/U.S.
- Launched in December 2005, CNN-IBN is a partnership between Turner International and Global Broadcast News, a Network18 Group company. CNN-IBN has access to CNN’s trademark live breaking news as well as key feature programs and offers 24-hour, English language general news and current affairs that reaches monthly on average 34 million cable & satellite television viewers across India.
- In addition to the five CNN International English language television channels, CNN is available on television in Spanish on CNN+, Spain; in Turkish on CNN Turk, Turkey; and in German on n-tv, Germany. On the web it is available in Japanese on CNN.co.jp, and Arabic on CNNArabic.com. A CNN headline news service is also available in Korean at CNN.com/Korean.
- ‘Breaking News’ is CNN’s trade-mark, on all media platforms. The tailored schedules on the international networks, which include a wealth of news documentary and feature programming, are brought together within seconds of a major story breaking.
ASIA PACIFIC NEWSROOM
- CNN’s regional production center in Hong Kong is a fully integrated newsgathering and production hub, providing network programming, newsgathering and online production for CNN’s television and internet services worldwide.
- Hong Kong also operates as the logistical and planning centre for the ten CNN newsgathering operations located in Asia, namely Bangkok, Beijing, Chennai, Hong Kong, Islamabad, Jakarta, Mumbai, New Delhi, Seoul and Tokyo.
- The production center produces and broadcasts more than 35 hours a week of programming including live prime time news and business programs – CNN TODAY, WORLD NEWS ASIA, WORLD BUSINESS TODAY and the popular chat show TALK ASIA.
TELEVISION
- CNN International can be seen in nearly 249 million households and hotel rooms in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide, via a network of 38 satellites. CNN in the Asia Pacific region is available in nearly 36 million households and hotel rooms
- Nearly 90 per cent of programs on CNN International are exclusively produced for the international feeds. Only about 10 per cent is derived from CNN/U.S.
- CNN International has over 80 anchors and correspondents with more than 20 different nationalities represented.
- The Hong Kong and London regional production centers produce a total of 80 hours of programming a week for CNN International.
DIGITAL MEDIA
- The CNN Web sites* are the world's leading news and information sites gaining over two billion page views every month.
- CNN Mobile is CNN International’s service for mobile devices. Launched in 1999, it was the first mobile telephone news and information service available globally with targeted regional content.
- In September 2008, CNN launched CNNMobile.com across 49 countries and territories in Asia Pacific. It rounds out CNN’s 360 degree mobile solution offering, integrating live streaming mobile TV, video on demand content and SMS breaking news alert services.
- Updated 24 hours a day, seven days a week, CNN Mobile content includes breaking news; world and regional news; world business news, market updates and currency rates; weather temperatures and forecasts; world sports news and scores. Mobile operators can customize the content based on their subscribers’ interests.
RESEARCH
The latest set of PAX (Pan Asia-Pacific Cross Media Survey) annual figures for the October ‘07 to September ’08 survey period are the latest remarkable endorsement of CNN’s unrivalled success:
- CNN is the number one news/business channel across all PAX demographics. (The top 22% in socio-economic terms and of adults aged 25-64 in eleven major markets in Asia Pacific.)
- CNN delivers 85% more PAX respondents, and twice as many Business Decision Makers and Top Management each week than the next placed news/business channel
- Over the course of a month, a substantial 41% of CNN viewers watch no other news/business channels. CNN’s monthly exclusive audience of 1.8 million is 4 times larger than that of any other news/business channel.
- The CNN Websites* maintains the leading position among regional media web sites, visited by almost 85% more Business Decision Makers and twice as many Top Management across a month than the next placed international media web site.
