CNN has been available in Latin America since 1980, when it launched in the United States.  (The size of the satellite footprint meant that the signal was available in parts of the region including Mexico and Central America.)  In January 1989, the CNN was launched on Pan Am Sat 1, which covers all of Latin America.  In 1991, CNN International replaced CNN on Pan Am Sat1.
