CNN APPOINTS NEW BANGKOK CORRESPONDENT

Top ITN reporter Dan Rivers has been appointed CNN's Bangkok Correspondent. He will be based in Thailand and report from the region for all of CNN's news services.

Rivers has extensive international experience having covered the initial phases of the war in Iraq , the South Asian Tsunami and the break up of Yugoslavia . Prior to joining ITN he was based in France as a reporter for EuroNews.

“Dan has a formidable track record as a correspondent”, said Tony Maddox, senior vice president CNN International newsgathering. From his forensic coverage of the July 7 bombings in London , his coverage of last years Tsunami and his exhaustive reporting of the Hutton Inquiry he shows a depth of talent that CNN is proud to have on board.”

This appointment underscores CNN's commitment to both the Asia-Pacific region and to international newsgathering. Managed from CNN's regional news hub in Hong Kong , Rivers will cover both news and business stories from across the region as well as breaking news.

CNN operates in the Asia Pacific region from its digital newsroom based in Hong Kong , where journalists produce 30 hours of international and regional news and business programming per week including CNN TODAY, WORLD NEWS ASIA and popular chat show TALK ASIA. The Hong Kong production facility is also the newsgathering headquarters for CNN's nine bureaus in Asia Pacific. CNN International has over 80 anchors and correspondents from more than 20 different countries.
