CNN.com Announces Groundbreaking Broadband Service

Top Internet News Site Expands Online Offerings with
Free Video, Unmatched Premium Product
 

CNN.com extends its leadership as the Internet’s top site for news and information with the launch of free broadband video, placing the site at the control of online users. In addition, ad-supported video packages specifically for CNN.com are woven throughout the site on section fronts, story pages and special reports complementary to the content.

Presented in a new, wide-screen format, CNN’s video content features the most popular news stories of the day across 14 categories, including Top Stories, U.S., World, Politics, Business, Sports, Entertainment and more.

Details of CNN.com’s free video include:

  • Distinct high quality videos at a high bit rate, available on-demand, in a wide screen format with 16 x 9 ratio, similar to HDTV dimensions, on the most popular news stories of the day across 14 categories including Top Stories, U.S., World, Politics, Offbeat, Business, Sports, Entertainment, Health, Sci-Tech, Law, Best of TV, Jeanne Moos, Special Reports;
     

  • “Now in the News”, an hourly two-minute news update, highlighting the latest news of the hour produced exclusively for the web, anchored by web-exclusive hosts;
     

  • A specially designed web player which enables users to easily search for videos from the last seven days by keyword or topic;
     

  • A unique “Browse Video” function which allows users to organize, browse and sort through videos via a number of different criteria so they can quickly focus on the content they wish to see;
     

  • Special sections such as “Top Video” which features clips on the day’s biggest stories as well as “Picks” which serves up video that CNN editors think are the most interesting video clips.

IBM has signed on as the first sponsor in Asia for the launch of CNN.com’s free video service. The marketing package includes promotional banners throughout CNN.com, 30-second video creative prior to content, 30-second lead out creative, and a call-to-action banner under the video screen.

Also, coming this fall, CNN.com will launch a premium video news service that will deliver an unmatched consumer experience including multiple live video streams, access to CNN’s video archives and innovative user-customized options.
