What are the awards all about?

CNN Young Journalist Award

The CNN Young Journalist Award, now in its fifth year in India and fourth year in Pakistan, aims to reinforce the importance of a journalist's role, by recognizing and nurturing journalistic talent to promote quality journalism. The award provides opportunities to young journalists in India and Pakistan to participate in the competition and win a trip to News Xchange conference 2008 to be held at such venue as may be decided by the organisers (Conference). The winners of the CNN Young Journalist Award 2007, one in each of the Television and Print/ Online categories, will have an opportunity to attend the Conference, an internationally recognized networking forum for broadcasters and media professionals across the globe.

CNN Aspiring Journalist Award

The CNN Aspiring Journalist Award, introduced in India in 2006, is targeted at students preparing for a career in journalism who may have just appeared (awaiting results) or are about to appear for final examinations. Again, the award has two categories. The winner of the CNN Aspiring Journalist Award - Television Category will receive an internship with CNN-IBN and the CNN Aspiring Journalist Award - Print Category will receive an internship with Outlook magazine.

CNN Citizen Journalist Award

The CNN Citizen Journalist Award, instituted in India in 2006, is open to Indian citizens who are not professional journalists. The award is an initiative to encourage non-journalist citizens to play an active role in the process of collecting and disseminating news and information on issues that have an impact on society. A winner will be chosen from entries aired on CNN-IBN between 1 January, 2007 and 30 September, 2007. The winner will receive a digital camera and Indian Rupees 20,000 in cash.

CNN Photo Journalist Award

The CNN Photo Journalist Award - a new award introduced this year to recognize the art of still photo-journalism. It is open to all photo-journalists in India and Pakistan. The winner will receive a digital SLR camera.

CNN Journalist Award – a special award in celebration of India and Pakistan’s 60th year of Independence

The CNN Journalist Award - a further new award for this year - celebrates the 60th year of independence for India and Pakistan. This honour will be awarded to the author of one television and one print story that each offers an in-depth analysis of an aspect that made a difference to the development of either country. The award is open to all Indian and Pakistani journalists. Each winner of the CNN Journalist Award will receive a laptop computer worth approximately Indian Rupees 50,000/-.
